Wild bergamot is a native member of the mint family, recognized by its aromatic leaves, square stems, and shaggy lavender flower heads. Its summer blooms are especially valuable to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

The leaves and flowers can be brewed as tea or used as an oregano-like seasoning. Indigenous peoples traditionally used wild bergamot in preparations for colds, sore throats, digestion, and minor skin complaints.
